Graduate Administrative Fellows Program (GRAdmins)

The Writing Center offers a select number of on-campus assistantships as Graduate Administrative Fellows (GRAdmins) to current graduate students at the University of Missouri. The GRAdmin Program is comprised of 0.5 FTE (20 hours/week), 9-month appointments offered in the Fall and Spring semesters that provide graduate students from any academic unit with tutoring, teaching, and administrative experience in the Writing Center.

GRAdmins receive 25 hours of writing tutoring training before beginning their work at the Writing Center. Each semester, they split their weekly hours between one-on-one tutoring (in both face-to-face and online modalities) and administrative tasks––such as managing the Writing Center’s email inbox and responding to general inquiries, answering on-the-job questions from tutoring staff, supervising undergraduate tutors, and completing research.

GRAdmins also lead an administrative project during the academic year that is tailored to their personal and professional goals. Some examples of past administrative projects include observing and training tutors, serving as a TA for the Writing Center’s undergraduate Honors & Writing Intensive tutoring preparation course, and presenting at Writing Center workshops and collaborations with other campus partners.

In addition to providing the Writing Center with tutoring and administrative support, GRAdmins participate in required monthly professional development workshops with the Writing Center leadership. These guided professional development workshops supplement their professional projects, providing them with either additional and applicable professional skills or ways to apply their skills to diverse environments. Below is a selected list of past professional development workshops:

  • Writing Center Conferences & Scholarship
